Kia Soul EV (2014-2018) practicality & boot space

The boxy outline of the Kia Soul EV hints at the practical and spacious interior inside, which will appeal to family buyers

The Kia Soul EV is a full five-seater, and although space is a little compromised compared with the non-electric versions, there should be more than enough for most families and their luggage.

Kia Soul EV interior space, storage & comfort

There’s plenty of space for five passengers in the boxy Kia Soul EV’s interior, which is almost as roomy as those of its internal-combustion-powered stablemates. Up front the driver and passenger will notice no difference at all, and the driver is especially well catered for with a height-adjustable seat and a full range of steering-wheel adjustment.

Up to three passengers can fit in the back. They have 80mm less legroom due to the need to find space for batteries, but Kia has tried to mitigate the issue by tilting the seat backs a little. As a result, headroom remains viable even for adult passengers.

There’s plenty of space for oddments, too, with large door bins and a usefully deep glovebox, as well as a central cubby under the armrest and cup-holders.

Boot space

The Soul EV’s boot space is nothing to write home about at 281 litres, which is well down on the standard Kia Soul’s 354 litres. You lose storage under the boot floor to charging cables, too, but there is a 60:40 split/fold rear bench seat. Drop the back seat to maximise the luggage area, and you get 891 litres compared with the non-electric Soul’s much more impressive 1,367 litres – and the seats don’t fold flat to the floor, either.
