New 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric: prices, specification and on-sale date

The Hyundai Kona Electric has been updated for another model year with styling and technology revisions

Hyundai has confirmed UK pricing and specifications for the revised Kona Electric, a facelifted and improved version of the outgoing SUV. It's priced (including the government grant) from £30,125 for the entry-level SE Connect trim with the smaller 39kWh battery, rising to £31,475 in Premium spec with the same battery. The larger 64kWh battery is offered in Premium (£35,225) and Ultimate (£37,375) trims.

The 39kWh battery is paired with a 134bhp motor, while the 64kWh battery gets a 201bhp motor. The former has a range of 189 miles, the latter 300 miles – both unchanged compared to the previous version of the car. Rapid charging is supported at up to 100kW for an 80% charge in 47 minutes.

Chief among the Kona's upgrades is a new look that's intended to set it apart from its petrol-powered stablemates. There's no need for airflow to radiators, so there's a new smoothed-off front end, while new bumpers feature front and rear, along with new LED headlights. The car also loses its contrasting plastic moulding in favour of body-coloured panels, and there are now 10 exterior colours to pick from, up from five for the outgoing model.

Changes inside aren't quite as drastic, limited largely to new 10.25-inch digital dials that join the existing 10.25-inch infotainment system and a couple of new upholstery options. The SE Connect spec includes those screens, as well as rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera, keyless entry with a stop-start button and smart adaptive cruise control with a stop-go function.

Premium adds full LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and ambient lighting. Blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warnings are also present, along with front parking sensors, LED rear lights, power-folding mirrors, automatic wipers and a wireless charging point. The range-topping Ultimate gets an electric tilt-and slide sunroof, a head-up display, leather upholstery, power-adjustable ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.
