Audi Q5 hybrid reliability & safety rating

The Audi Q5 is a safe car that did well in independent Euro NCAP crash tests. We'd like to see more advanced driver aids included as standard, however, and the brand could have performed better in the most recent Driver Power owner survey.

Audi Q5 TFSI e reliability & problems

The 2.0-litre petrol engine used in the plug-in hybrid Q5 is used in other Audis and should be dependable. However, we need more individual data for the plug-in hybrid system to judge its long-term reliability. It is worth noting that Audi as a brand placed a disappointing 30th out of 32 manufacturers in the 2023 Driver Power survey.

The highest-rated Audi on the list of the best cars to own was the smaller Q3 SUV, which came in 27th out of 75 vehicles.

Safety

The Audi gets a reversing camera, autonomous city braking, traction control, hill-hold assistance and parking sensors as standard, and received a five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. Semi-autonomous parking is available as part of the pricey Technology or Technology Pack Pro, while additional safety systems like Audi side assist and exit warning comes in the Driver Assistance pack, including blindspot monitoring mentioned earlier. There's no driver's knee airbag and – as with most plug-in hybrids – no space-saver spare wheel (a tyre repair kit is standard) due to a shortage of room for it in the boot.
