Mercedes eCitan electric van finally on sale after two-year wait

Mercedes' smallest electric van gets a 176-mile range and is on-sale now from £33,995

More than two years after it was first unveiled, prices for the Mercedes eCitan have been revealed ahead of first deliveries in October. Two trims will be offered, with the base model priced from £33,995 excluding VAT and any incentives.

All versions get a 176-mile official range, and while Mercedes hasn’t yet quoted a peak charging speed, a 10-80% charge of its 45kWh battery is apparently possible in 35 minutes, while 22kW AC charging is included as standard. All vans get a 120bhp electric motor, and three regenerative braking modes.

Based on the second-generation Citan, it goes up against electric vans like the Citroen Berlingo, Renault Kangoo E-TECH, Toyota Proace City Electric and Vauxhall Combo Electric. Eventually, the eCitan will be available in panel van and crew van bodystyles, with a choice of L1 and L2 lengths.

Both the eCitan’s load space and payload are expected to match its diesel and petrol-powered counterparts, which means up to 2.9 cubic metres of load capacity for the panel van version. Mercedes has confirmed the eCitan can tow a 1,450kg braked trailer.

Two specs are available at launch: Progressive (£33,995 ex.VAT) and Premium (£35,970 ex.VAT). The base car gets a reversing camera, MBUX navigation – as found in cars like the EQA and EQC electric SUVs, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – and high-gloss dashboard trim with chrome elements, plus a host of safety kit including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist recognition. Premium brings 16-inch alloy wheels, colour-coded bumpers, LED headlights and metallic paint.

Order books are open now and as mentioned, first customer vans are due to arrive in October. The full range will be available in early 2024.
